Men's night

The topic for this Men’s night is “Pandemic Disease and the Mystery of Divine Providence”

Dr. Ferngren, an OSU professor, will be talking on the subject, and it will be a great opportunity for fellowship and discussion.

“Those who study the history of epidemic disease realize that in nearly every instance, ancient or modern, pandemics raise the same problems: Why does God send or permit them? They have most often been explained as either evidence of God’s wrath on sin or apocalyptic signs of the end times. Non-Christians have usually accounted for their meaning in a similar way and in many cases they have searched for scapegoats. Naturalistic accounts of disease do not solve the problem since medical remedies rarely exist in sufficient quantity to treat pandemics. And the question of why God sends them remains. There are answers to the questions I have posed and I believe that they lie ultimately in the mystery of divine providence. We will look at one particular biblical reference, Luke 13:1-5, a consider the theological implications of a Christian perspective on pandemics.”
