Connect Week: A week of Outreach events aimed at introducing the Newman Center to new incoming students. 7 total events included an ice cream social, a bbq, and a kick off day at Aldersgate retreat center. Each event each drew 40-100 new and returning students.
Prayer Campaign: We entrusted the 2014-2015 students, faculty and staff of OSU to Jesus in his Divine Mercy. The campaign raised over 1 million “Jesus, I trust in you” prayers and engaged over 250 parishioners, students, staff, families and friends.
Pilgrimage: 100 Students from OSU and PSU walked from Corvallis to the Grotto in Portland; traveling 90 miles on foot over the course of four days, entrusting their journey to Our Mother in prayer.
Mission Trip: During the summer, 44 students and Missionaries participated in a fruitful 11 day mission to Belize to immerse themselves in the culture, spread the message of Christ, visit homes, and hold retreats for the communities.
Fragua Course: Held on campus at OSU, The Fragua Course is a 10 week program for students who are seeking more from life. We provide a meal, a spiritual talk and small group discussion. Last fall 80-90 students participated on a regular basis, and 70 attended the retreat weekend.
Fragua 201 and 301: The next levels of the Fragua Course. Students met with their cohort to hear talks, meet in small groups, and build community. Topics last year covered apologetics, prayer life, Men’s and Women’s spirituality, practice of virtue, and a study of Philippians. We had 40 students participate last fall, and 60 in the spring.
Bible Study: Approximately 10 new students participated on a weekly basis.
Inquire: A course offered to students to address big questions such as, Why have faith? Does God exist? and Does happiness exist? Approximately 30 new students participated on a weekly basis in small group settings on and off campus.
Intro to Theology: Student-led group discussion about utilizing literature from Church theologians. Approximately 7 students participated on a weekly basis throughout the year.
Annual Women’s & Men’s Retreats: 70 students participated in a weekend of silent prayer with guided talks and meditations.
Weekly Mass: Thursday Night Mass at the Newman Center chapel was regularly attended by 50 students.
Festival of Praise: Held once a month, 60 students regularly participated in an hour of adoration with praise and worship, moments of silence, and guided prayer.
Tabor Adoration: Thursday afternoons the Newman Center Chapel is open for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
Works of Mercy: We fed the homeless and visited the sick and elderly several times throughout the year with 10-20 students.
Leadership Team: Students applied, interview and were elected to 12 positions on the student leadership team. These students held regular meetings, planned and led activities at the Newman Center. 2 leadership retreats were provided for the development and spiritual growth of this team.
Social Activities: Several social events were held throughout the year including camping trips, after-Mass social gatherings, a Christmas Party, Las Posadas Celebration in collaboration with the OSU Cesar Chavez student center, finals-week free student dinners, Mom’s Weekend Brunch and a Commencement Dinner.
